WW1 German 'Gummi Mask' Complete Set - 1916 Dated
As a set this makes for an excellent talking point display . Gas warfare will always be a very large factor in the terrible history of the Great war ! This is a standard issue set and one of so many fascinating variations as carried by all soldiers. The mask itself is an early 1916 "Auergesellschaft" inspection stamped Gummi ( rubber cloth version ). The Canister has multiple clear ink stampings and the maker monogram of 'Otto Muller' . The tin is typical of those that carried on latter into service and is a very much above average complete example . To the tins inner base , still intact, is a complete one sided thick paper "Gummi" mask instruction disk . To the tins lid is a spare lens still in its paper wrapper . Condition is very good for over 100+ years with the rubber cloth still supple and not dry or brittle, filter shows a little of the expected corrosion but again is above average for these & has much of the original factory field grey paint . Straps are of non standard construction & may be later replacements.
