WW1 German MG08 Maxim Machine Gun Barrel Carrier With Shrapnel Hits

Rare double barrel carrier for the German MG08 Maxim machine gun with original paint , leather carrying strap & evidence of shrapnel ball hits.
With a good proportion of the dark green paint remaining there are the remains of what appears to be a tactical marking to the centre of its body. One area shows multiple shrapnel ball hits from a shell blast with a couple of other dings evident. Leather sling is original to the piece.
Very hard to find piece of WW1 MG08 equipment that has seen action during the Great war.

This carrier comes from a very old European collection having been picked up from the battlefield & acquired by local collector some time later until now.
